Armament
In operational use, Army Air Corps Apaches can be armed with a variety of weapons to suit the specific mission requirements.
The M230 chain gun is mounted underneath the nose of the aircraft and can be loaded with up to 1,200 rounds of 30mm shells. This gun fires at rates of up to 625 rounds per minute, and has an effective range of over a mile.
Bristol Aerospace CRV-7 rocket pods have been used operationally by UK forces on RAF Jaguar and Harrier aircraft. These pods carry 19 of these 2.75 inch unguided rockets, and depending upon the specific type of rocket loaded has an effective range of up to 5 miles.
AGM-114 Hellfire missiles provide the Apache with it's most far-reaching firepower. 2 versions are available for use (either the Laser guided AGM-114K or the Radar guided AGM-114L), and these can accurately hit targets up to 8 miles away.
The missiles and rocket pods are mounted on the pylons underneath the stub wings, and these pylons can also carry additional external fuel tanks, either to extend the aircraft's loiter time, or to allow the aircraft to self deploy over 900 miles from it's base.
